University Hospitals Home Care offers comprehensive rehabilitation services including Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy. Our primary goal is to help patients of all ages achieve an optimal level of functional independence. Our therapists and social workers work in collaboration with physicians and other members of the home care team to make this goal a reality.

Rehabilitation Services:
- Physical Therapy: Improving the body by building strength, improving mobility and developing greater confidence through special exercises and physical training.
- Occupational Therapy: Assisting patients to become as independent as possible in daily living skills such as dressing and bathing through special exercises and activities.
- Speech Therapy: Helping patients develop skills that enable them to think and express themselves more clearly. Speech Therapy also helps patients with swallowing disorders and can teach specialized exercises and training to swallow safely.

Occupational Therapy

By directing a patient’s participation in selected tasks, the therapist can help the patient enhance performance, restore function, and promote and maintain health. The therapist will work with you to come up with strategies, techniques, or adaptations so that you can be as independent as possible. Important Definitions
ADL (activities of daily living)
- ADL (activities of daily living): The things we normally do in daily living including any daily activity we perform for self-care (such as feeding ourselves, bathing, dressing, grooming), work, homemaking, and leisure. The ability or inability to perform ADL can be used as a very practical measure of ability/disability in many disorders.
Rehabilitation
- The restoration of, or improvement in, a patient's health and the ability to perform functions of his or her job and activities of daily living (ADL).
Therapy
- Specialized program, exercises, and methods used to help a patient regain the best quality of life after a illness, disability or disease.
